Twenty Years

Posted on March 8, 2016 by Leave a comment

March 11, 2016 marks my 20-Year ‘Hanna-versary’ with the company I’ve spent my entire Graphic Design career with. With Cindy’s transition to retirement, and my taking over, it’s definitely been an amazing and crazy ride!

My husband jokes that I’ve never had a ‘real job’ because this one has always been so good to me. With great people to work with (co-workers and clients), I’ve rarely been exposed to ‘Office Politics’ or had major challenges to overcome. Hanna Design has always been more than a job, and a bit like a home away from home. Not many people stay with the same gig for 20 years, but with this milestone, I’d like to share some highlights, memories and things I’ve learned (in no particular order).

Office-wise, we can’t forget the long green couch when we decided to have a ‘napping room’, nor can we forget the annual duck races in the ponds at our old office. We also had a tradition to have a weekly potluck, which became part of our culture for many years. Crock Pot recipes in Winter and grilling in the Summer. We also invited consultants in to Feng Shui our offices and learned more about our personalities with Enneagram. Those were such fun times with lots of great memories. Then in 1999, the team at Hanna shared in my engagement to my husband — Cindy actually drove me to a ‘new client meeting’ in Fort Collins to help with the surprise, with most of the office taking the afternoon off to follow us there (taking pictures and hiding in the trees!). Then a few months later they attended my wedding and were among some of the first people to meet both of our kids a few years later. I’ve pretty much ‘grown up’ at Hanna, not only in my career, but as a person, wife and mom. I’ve learned my strengths and weaknesses (and still continuing to learn more about those). Most importantly though, I’ve learned to do what I love, which is a blessing in itself. I started at Hanna Design young and right out of college. Now I’m not quite as young. The memories of my 20 years at Hanna are pretty priceless and I definitely have to agree with my husband that my situation is unique, and I am very grateful for all of it — the friends, experiences, stories and opportunities it has brought to me.

Thank you, Hanna Design!

See My Voice

Why is our Blog called ‘See My Voice’?

Good Question! A handful of years ago Cindy dreamed up this really cool process for us. We thought it was so great, we even designed a logo and trademarked it.

Be Seen. Be Heard. Get Results. See My Voice.

The power of great design comes from being able to convey what someone is trying to communicate in a visual way. I don’t always need you to hear my voice, often times I want you see what I am saying and understand it for yourself. This is the brilliance of design and what we do day in and day out. We take concepts and ideas, and turn them into visual pieces that tell a message or a story.

Over time our use of the name and logo faded, but its still a great name with meaning and carries some weight around here. Because of that, it seemed very fitting to bring back ‘See My Voice’ as the name of our BLOG. We hope you enjoy it!

2014 has brought some exciting new things to Hanna Design!

First, we are really excited to be launching our updated Hanna Design website that now includes a BLOG! We have great things planned for 2014 and getting our new site off the ground is a key component of keeping things moving.

Our biggest news, however, is that our Founder, Cindy Hanna, began her journey into retirement in January. We like to think of it as ‘switching seats’ with me. I began my Graphic Design career at Hanna Design in March of 1996 and have learned everything I know about the design business from Cindy and the many fantastic people I’ve been able to work with during my time at Hanna. I started as a ‘Designer’s Assistant’ and now I am running the place. Pretty crazy actually, but I am very excited to embark on this new journey as I support Cindy’s ability embark on hers. Though our goal is to grow, our plan is really to stay the same. The greatest benefit of keeping this transition internal is the ability to continue our working relationships with the same great clients who trust us, and are truly part of our Hanna family. I want to offer the reassurance that though there may be a brief learning curve with parts of this transition, there will still be the same level of responsiveness and quality we are known for. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Cindy and I have also been able to reach out to many existing clients to discuss the changes, but haven’t gotten to everyone. If there are any questions, thoughts or concerns, please reach out to me.

Cindy plans to still be around and to help out where she is needed, but also looks forward to having more time for her gardening and world travels. We hope to have her share some of her adventures with us here at
